What is Depression?

Although common, depression is not a normal part of aging.  Technically, depression is the term used to describe pessimism and feelings of sadness that last for weeks or months at a time, and that interfere with one’s ability to cope with day-to-day situations.  These feelings of negativity can be traced back to an imbalance in brain chemicals.  Correcting this imbalance is part of the treatment for depression.  If left untreated, depression can last for years, can deteriorate, and can also contribute to decay in other health aspects.

How Does Depression Manifest in Seniors?

Older people experience many instances of loss in a rather short period of time.  As we age, we ‘lose’ our jobs and transition into retirement, we lose some physical and mental abilities, we lose our independence, and we lose our loved ones.  Many people are able to cope with these changes well, but some of us are not.

In order to help your loved one recover from depression, acknowledge there is a problem and discuss it with them early on.  Ignoring depression can lead to symptoms getting worse, making recovery much harder.  Encourage your loved one to seek professional help and arrange an appointment if they are willing to attend, but unable to take care of this task by themselves.

You can also help by re-engaging your loved one in activities they used to enjoy.  Socialization can be very tiring when someone is depressed, so try to schedule short visits, with few other people at any given time.

Encourage rest and healthy eating habits and remove distractions that interfere with those goals.

The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks (213-485-7512) offers a wealth of activities tailored for seniors at the many senior centers around town.  In addition, many other cities offer similar programs.  Contact your local office for more information about events in your neighborhood.

The Lead Capture Page (“Squeeze or Gateway Page”)

This is simply a web page that has a single focus – to get people to subscribe to your list, or to squeeze their information like name, email, phone number etc…

The Auto Responder

A blog is a very simple way of generating content in the form of articles that allow you to brand yourself and your system over time. It is probably the easiest way to build your own web site and will also generate visitors from the search engines over time.

The auto responder is simply a service that allows you to very easily email your list of subscribers. You can load a series of emails into this system and they will be delivered automatically at a preset interval. I recommend using a quality autoresponder. Don’t try to host this yourself.

A Blog for Branding

So back to how I integrate the presentation, since I know several people have questions about how I use it.

For my warm market I have a business card that simply has my unique address printed on it. If I meet someone that wants to know more about the business, I give them a card and they go check out the site.

I also use if for prospecting on the internet. Immediately after someone subscribes to my list on my CAPTURE PAGE, they are sent an email with the link to a free e-book in it. So the first thing they are exposed to is a very high quality presentation on why network marketing makes so much sense.

From that point on, they are typically already sold on the business model, and it then a simple manner of explaining our system and our company to them. This and the other system I use are very simple to set up and generate very responsive leads!

So once again – I highly recommend finding good tools and then leverage the tools to do the explaining for you.
